When you put quotation marks "around" a word, it can imply that the word is not meant to be "taken" literally. This can be really fun to do at random, because it keeps people "guessing" about what you're really trying to say.
There are a two ways to get this "effect": through writing (like my favorite sign from the late great Sunset Bowl), or by "using" your fingers to signify quotation marks when talking.
So go ahead... put "something" in quotes. If you know what I mean...
